Announcement

What a week, huh? I'm not going to get into it, just that I could really use a laugh. If you think that things re looking bad, though, at least the world isn't overrun with Psychlos. WTF is a Psychlo, you are probably asking. Well, imagine John Travolta with dreadlocks, a CPAP machine and a desperate need for a manicure and you're getting close. Time to tick another one of the most notoriously worst movies of all time off of the list! We will be watching 2000's BATTLEFIELD EARTH, based on the novel by a fella by the name of L. Ron Hubbard and directed by the Academy Award winner Roger Christian (he won for set decoration for the original Star Wars, believe it or not). It stars...a lot of Scientologsts. John Travolta, Forest Witaker, Kim Coates, Barry Pepper and more. Travolta tried to get the novel made into a movie for decades-- he even approached Quentin Tarantino to direct it (he obviously turned it down, but can you imagine?) Originally MGM was going to distribute it, Rumor has it that Tom Cruise told Warner Brothers not to risk making it. Travolta's manager signed him with 20th Century Fox with the purpose of having them distrubte it-- that fell though too. Finally it was obtained by Franchise Pictures, run by the infamous Elie Samaha-- he would rescue stars' pet projects, inflate the budgets, pay people like garbage and walk away rich (he also made last week's movie! And he inflated the budget on that one too!). I remember when this movie was being released-- people were worried that kids would watch it and think Scientology was cool. Well, that didn't happen-- it was a legendary disaster. 3% on Rotten Tomatoes, costs of somewhere from $64m to $97m that were in no way recouped with its $30m gross-- it was one of the biggest box office bombs in cinematic history. And tonight, we will experience it together. See ya at 6:30!
