Frank Dux, what a guy. Winner of the Medal of Honor for heroism, rescuer of orphans from Philippine pirates and undercover CIA agent. While serving in Southeast Asia in 1975 he competed in the Kumite, a secret no holds barred martial arts competition held in the Bahamas. He was also the inspiration and fight coordinator for tonight’s movie, 1988's BLOODSPORT, starring BMT repeat customer Jean-Claude Van Damme in his first starring role. Of all of these wild facts, the only ones that are undisputedly true were the last ones about the movie-- Dux had been dining out on all of these stories for years in LA, only to be the victim of actual journalism by the LA Times a few months after Bloodport was released (“Military records show that Dux never ventured closer to Southeast Asia than San Diego. His only known war injury occurred when he fell off a truck he was painting in the motor pool”). But wait! That’s disinformation, says Dux. Remember he was a covert operative. Or something. Anyhoo, it makes for fascinating reading if you like this kind of stuff (which of course I do), but if you just want to get to the punching, join us tonight at 6:30pm for Bloodsport! It’s available for rent on Amazon and streaming on Max, so you have options. https://www.amazon.com/gp/video/detail/B08T1DFSXV/ref=atv_dp_share_cu_r
