Devil Story (1986)

Once upon a time (well, 1986 to be precise) there was a French movie called "Il était une fois... le diable" which literally translated means Once upon a time... the devil. Now, the French are very good at making movies in general, but horror/splatter movies aren't really their forté, at least back in their American heyday. This movie was called DEVIL STORY in English, which as a Letterboxd user pointed out is ironic as there are no devils in it, and barely a story. The good folks over at Vinegar Syndrome did the world a solid by remastering this movie into 4k from the camera negatives, allowing us to get a look at this thing for ourselves. The reviews of this are a mix of awe, confusion and delight-- one says "Don't ask me about the plot. My brain is fried from this absolute fever dream of a film. Should be incredibly frustrating story wise, but it's also maybe the greatest thing ever created." Another reads "*stares into the abyss confused at what all just happened there.*" and of course my favorite "with all due respect to my fellow french: excusez-moi quoi de la fuck?" This movie is gory but also very poorly made, so you can decide for yourself if that's something you want to see (from what I saw of it, it looked pretty tame, but you've been warned). Description

After their car breaks down in the French countryside, a young couple must fend off a Nazi mutant and his gypsy mother, a mummy, and a possessed horse.
