I find it kind of incredible that Sony has made, and continues to make, Spider-Man movies without the existence of Spider-Man. As a long-time Spider-Man comics fan, it baffles me to have the existence of Venom (who is just a monstrous version of Spidey) just...sort of look like an unbranded knockoff. Also, if I was going to expand my Spider-Man without Spider-Man universe, why not make movies of characters that can stand on their own? Like, I dunno, off the top of my head, Sandman? You don't need Peter Parker for Sandman to make sense. Or Mephisto, or Carrion? And those are just the non-stupid villains. Instead they make a movie about Morbius (#neverforgetthemorb), and Kraven (which is upcoming) and...MADAME WEB (2024)? I'm on barely aware of her as a character, she is completely inconsequential and almost personality-less, and only exists because of Spider-Man. Why? WHYYYYYYYYYY. Anyhoo, rant over. I have avoided any spoilers about this movie because I've been very excited to see this shitshow-- if it's half as good/bad as the Venom movies and Morbius, we're in for a treat. I know it stars Dakota Johnson (of Fifty Shades fame, also of child of Don fame) and it came out this year and it was...uh...not well received. Let's see for ourselves tonight!
