Announcement

We've watched a few musicals in our time here at BMT. Some are just goofy, bizarre fun, like Xanadu or Can't Stop the Music. Others don't seem to have a purpose in existing, like Cats or The Apple (sorry Sam). I'm not sure where tonight's movie will fall, but I'll give you the lowdown and you can judge for yourself. The year is 1980. The place, Japan. A musician named Haruo Chikada (it's misspelled in Wikipedia) created a concept album that was an imaginary soundtrack to a non-existant movie called THE LEGEND OF THE STARDUST BROTHERS. Makoto Tezuka, who is the son of Osamu Tezuka (creator of among other things, manga itself and also the character Astro Boy) was attending Nihon University in Chiodo, Japan. He had made some waves with a couple of short films, and for reasons I haven't been able to find was tapped to direct the real film version of the album, casting two of his musician friends as the the leads. The film was released in 1985 to... poor reviews. It then basically disappeared for 34 years until a UK based DVD distributor found the film and released it in the west, where it became a cult film. And now we are going to get the chance to see it for ourselves. It is presented in Japanese with English subtitles, and is supposed to be a trip. I can't wait. See ya at 6:30!

Description
