Albert Pyun is a man who made some movies-- that’s something we can all agree upon. We’ve already watched two (Cyborg and Captain America) without me realizing they were part of a celebrated oeuvre that also includes such classics as Alien From LA starring Kathy Ireland, The Sword and the Sorcerer and Dollman. The craziest part of his story is that he got his start getting an internship with Akira Kurasowa from Toshiro Mifune?! But anyhoo, let’s get down to brass tacks. Tonight we will be watching one of the best 80s genres ever: the sci-fi New Wave movie (I mean, we already saw Voyage of the Rock Aliens, but don’t count out other movies like Liquid Sky, Forbidden Zone, Repo Man and more), and it’s one I had never heard of! It’s from 1986, called VICIOUS LIPS, and is about an all-girl band (a term that we thankfully don’t need to use any more) competing in an intergalactic Battle of the Bands. It’s streaming for free on Prime and Paramount Plus and some other streaming services. See you at 6:30!
Description
Sometime in the distant future, a fledgling band gets an opportunity for a breakthrough, if they can make it in time to a faraway planet to perform in a very popular club.
