I’ve talked about my disappointment with attempts to make adaptations of Marvel properties. The movies that irritated me the most were the X-Men movies, which managed to be mostly terrible along with their disrespect to the source material. Sure, there were a couple of good scenes in X2 and some of the casting was excellent, but I mean, Halle Berry doing an imitation of a child imitating the X-Men cartoon version of Storm? Professor X as a kindly and selfless patriarch? Cyclops as a humorless dick? Meh. Nowhere was this more evident than in the spinoff series that gave us the both the best X-Men movie Fox made (Logan, which is really a fantastic movie) and the worst, which will be tonight’s spectacle: X-Men Origins: Wolverine, a title only slightly less graceful than Batman V Superman Dawn of Justice. See the terrible CGI! Experience the brainlessness of the stunt sequences! Marvel at the terrible casting choices! And if you are a Deadpool fan, just you wait for the first draft of the character, because ugh. Weirdly, it’s not streaming on Disney+ for free (though all of the other X-Men movies are), or Hulu (though Logan is), so it’ll be $4 on Amazon, though it’s available for rental from several other streaming services. Description
